The security in Fiji’s bigger cities is not as good as it used to be, especially to visitors as they are prone to attacks. Cases of sexual assaults have been on the rise along Fijian streets. It is advisable to avoid walking alone especially to ladies who like walking in wee hours. Though the islands are safe, some places are dangerous. You should keep all your valuables safe, and you should avoid making barter trade or exchanging anything with the locals. Avoid scanty dressing when visiting a village
Although you can dress however you want at most resorts, appropriate dress is mandatory when walking in the villages. Women are supposed to wear dresses that are covering up to their knees and their arms. Proper dressing for both men and women, especially when they are visiting the elders in the villages is a sign of respect. It is among the things that you need to do in Fiji. Nudes and topless sunbathing are illegal in this country. Things such as sunbathing are only allowed in some of the big hotels and beach resorts.
Don’t give gifts to children in the villages and along the streets.
Giving out gifts and other stuff to kids is among the things NOT to do in Fiji. Instead of giving out things like candy, you rather give out supplies, small trinkets; and donations to schools, churches and other places that need help. As tipping is not encouraged either, you may also donate to Christmas funds or even give out an individual reward to a service that seemed reasonable to you.
Keep Left on the Fijian roads.
Most countries drive on the right-hand side of the road. In Fiji, you are supposed to keep to your left. At times it becomes a challenge for some drivers to adhere to this rule, especially when they are driving in the villages where the roads are not well maintained like those in the towns. Roads in the villages are also full of potholes and lack street lights, which is another thing that is challenging to the touring drivers in Fiji.
