The Yasawa Islands Chain in the northwestern part of Fiji is a popular travel destination for tourists. This hasn’t always been so. Up until 1987, Fiji limited ground based tourism in the Yasawa’s. As a result, most tourists only ever got to see the beauty of the Yasawa islands from the deck of a boat. But now, there are over 30 resorts in the Yasawa island chain that cater to all types of tourists from budget conscious to all inclusive luxury. Whatever type of trip you are planning to take to Fiji, the Yasawa Island group has the perfect resort for you.
Of course, no matter how great the resort you choose to stay at while in the Yasawa islands is, nobody wants to spend their entire vacation cooped up in 1 resort. So if you are planning a trip to the Yasawa islands, here are some other activities you may wish to consider.
The incredible tropical waters around Fiji make it a great place to enjoy some snorkeling and/or scuba diving. The soft coral reefs are home to thousands of varieties of sea life. In the waters surrounding Fiji’s Yasawa Islands you can swim with Manta Rays, feed sharks, see giant clams, and so much more.
Go For A Hike
The islands of Yasawa have many different terrains. Most of them have great hiking trails that are easy enough for any skill level. And most of the islands are small enough that you can’t get lost. You can hike along beautiful coastlines, up mountains, or through forests. Guides are available, or you can go it alone.
Visit a Village
The islands of Yasawa are dotted with small, traditional Fijian villages. Here, the local people live much the same way their ancestors did. Visit a village, and you may be able to take part in a traditional Kava ceremony.
Take a Boat Ride
Whether you charter a fishing trip, or take a kayak or sailboat, seeing the Yasawa Islands from the water is a magical experience. If you want to head out into the water alone, we suggest doing so in one of the many protected lagoons. The water is calm, and if you drift to far, you will just end up at another island.
Turtle Airways offers low flying scenic flights that allow you to see the Yasawa Islands from a unique vantage point. Soar above the volcanic ridges, and rainforests. With one of these flights, you can see more of the Yasawa’s in less time then you could any other way. Don’t forget to bring a camera, the views are truly breathtaking.
