Fiji is an amazing place to visit. Nestled in the south pacific, this archipelago has everything you need for the perfect tropical vacation. But if you are looking to do more then just relax on the beach, take a look at our top 3 Fiji adventures, and you might be able to make your holiday more action packed.
Visit the Fiji Museum
On the island of Viti Levu, in the city of Suva, you can find the Fiji Museum. Showcasing the rich and vibrant history of the islands of Fiji, you will see artifacts dating back to the time when the first people arrived on these islands almost 4,000 years ago. You can see examples of the sailing vessels the early Fijians used to sail great distances across open water. Learn about the cannibals that used to inhabit some of these islands, and see artifacts that date from ancient to modern times.
Most guests to Fiji visit Nadi twice. If you are flying into Fiji on vacation, most likely you are flying into Nadi. While many people like to head straight to Denarau Marina where they can find a tourist focused shopping district, We suggest you take a little more time and enjoy Nadi.
The Sri Siva Subramaniya Swami Temple is almost as vibrant as the Hindu community that built it. One of the only places outside India where you can see traditional Dravidian architecture, this is one building everyone should see in person (especially because photos are not allowed to be taken in the temple.)
The Handicraft Market is the place to go for Authentic Fijian goods, and the people are friendly and great fun. There are loads of fresh, local fruits and veggies on sale as well in case you get a little hungry.
From the market, you can head over to Wailoaloa Beach, and hop on a seaplane. A low flying scenic flight above the islands (and waters) of Fiji is truly something everyone must experience. And to make up for that extra time you spent in Nadi, these seaplanes can get you to our next destination (The Yasawa Islands) in about 30 minutes. That is way faster then the 5 hour boat trip you were going to take from Denarau Marina.
Find Fiji Adventures on The Yasawa Islands
We can consider this a bonus item because you can fill up many lists of things to do in Fiji and still not touch all the awesomeness that is the Yasawa islands. This group of twenty islands about 50 miles north west of Nadi and Vita Levu Is truly an untouched gem of the south pacific. You can climb the majestic volcanic peaks, marvel at the lush tropical forests, stroll along the white sand beaches, or swim in the world famous Blue Lagoon.
The Yasawa islands were just opened up to land based tourism in the 1980’s. As a result, the islands still look and feel the same way they have for thousands of years. The cozy resorts that dot the Yasawa islands are mostly owned and operated by the local villages, and sustainability, and the well being of the environment are top priorities.
Visit the Mamanuca Islands
Looking to have a more traditional resort vacation? Then head south to the Mamanuca islands. The nightlife on Mana and Beachcomber islands is always bumping, and the surfs up all day long.
Besides the amazing water sports available around the Mamanuca islands, you can also check out where they filmed the Tom Hanks movie “Cast Away”, and the TV show Survivor: Fiji. Swimming with Sharks and other Diving adventures are available in the amazing waters around the Mamanuca islands, and so is just about any other activity you can think of in and on the water.
