“Likuliku”: Part of Fiji’s Mythical History

Legend has it that a sacred treasure box, “Katonimana”, went overboard in ancient times – 1500 BC – when a tribal armada from the south encountered high seas while searching the Fiji islands for a mythical island – a place of peace and abundance.

The Chief ordered that the box not be rescued, as this was where the Gods wanted it to be. He then named the nearby islands, also giving the beautiful lagoon its name – which means “calm waters”. Read more about the Legendary “Katonimana” of Fiji here.

“Amazing lagoon, great for eating well and doing close to nothing. My wife & I stayed for 5 nights in a deluxe bura, Oct 2013. The lagoon is amazing. Crystal clear water, oodles of fish and quality coral. Some of the best snorkeling I’ve done, right off the beach. The resort is super quiet. There is only 50 buras on a large beach, and lots of honeymooners keeping to themselves. No kids allowed”
